WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

Because we usually are dealing with a crisis or feeling some level of stress and vulnerability when we make a decision to seek out counseling, I think it is important to understand a little bit about what you can expect from working with me. This often helps people to feel more relaxed about the first appointment.

I am located in Bend, Oregon and I conduct all therapy sessions via teletherapy. I moved my therapy practice full time to teletherapy during the pandemic and made the decision last year to shift my practice permanently to teletherapy. Let’s face it, teletherapy is extremely convenient and very effective.

During the first session, we will get to know each other. I don’t have a formal intake process as I prefer to allow that process to happen more naturally. So as the session begins, you can immediately begin talking about what has brought you into therapy and at the end of the first session, I will provide you with my first impressions and recommendations about what I feel would be best for you on your healing path. You will leave the first session with a thorough experience of how I work and how we can work together.

From there, if we decide to work together, there are many possible scenarios of how that might look. Meeting on a regular basis, usually weekly is the ideal frequency to address the issues you bring in and getting the results that you seek. Some people prefer to come every other week due to time constraints or financial concerns. And then some people find they choose to come in infrequently on an as needed basis. We we explore together and see what feels best for you.

The therapeutic process can be boiled down to one very important word. That is connection. As we connect together, you will learn to connect to yourself in deeper ways. It is this connection and awareness with ourselves that contribute to a more fulfilling life and more enjoyable relationships.
